Purpose

The purpose of this qualification is to train the learner to operate and qualify as a Bricklaying artisan. The bricklayer will Lay bricks, natural and pre-cut stone and other types of building blocks in mortar and other bonding agents to construct, repair and/or make alterations to walls, piers, arches and other structures

Course Overview

The learners will attend institutionalised training at our centres which are situated in Cape Town, Kya Sands and Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). The course is broken up into three sessions of 8 weeks per year over a period of three years.

In year 1 they will focus on Hand skills and tools, the introduction to Building Industry, Mixes and mixing Mortar, laying and building half and one brick walls and corners in stretcher bond, and building foundation brickwork etc.

In year 2 they focus on English bond method of building which includes single brick corner, half brick corner and right angle bricks walls with half T-junction and stopped ends, building in a bath, window and door frames, arches and manholes etc.

Then in year 3 they will focus on building steps, isolated brick piers, laying of pavers, all building related to concrete block work and building in wooden door frames and metal windows frames.etc

Recommended Entry Criteria
