Purpose
A learnership is a work–based learning programme. This means that classroom studies at a college or training centre are combined with practical on–the–job experience. We learn much better when we can practice what we have been taught in the classroom in a workplace environment.
This is the single level Learnership but can also be used to pursue one’s career as a plumber. The knowledge and experience gained in this qualification focused on hot water systems used in our everyday lives. During the year the learners will receive knowledge and experience on
- Mounting and connecting a solar heating/hot water system.
- Installing and testing cold and hot water supply system.
- Applying basic plumbing principles.
- Applying basic first aid.
- Applying health and safety rules and regulations.
- Using scaffolding and harnesses.
- Reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
- Using and maintaining hand and power tools and equipment
Course Overview
The learners will attend their knowledge and practical training at our centres which are situated in Cape Town, Kya Sands (Johannesburg) and Ggeberha (Port Elizabeth).The course covers 14 weeks at the institution which is made up of Fundamental unit standards covering numeracy and literacy, as well as core and elective unit standards that are selected to meet the minimum credits required to achieve the qualification. Learners will complete formative assessments which will be recorded in their POE’s
Learners are then required to complete exposure at the worksite gaining valuable on–the–job experience against the unit standards completed for roughly between 6 – 8 months of the year.
On completion thereof learners will be required to complete summative assessments against the assessment criteria as listed in each unit standard. Successful learners will receive a National Certificate issued by the relevant SETA’s and the credits will be registered on the National Learner Registration Database.
At any time in the future, learners can do level 4 Plumbing which will then lead to a National trade test
Recommended Entry Criteria
- Mathematical literacy at NQF Level 1.
- Communication at to NQF Level 1.
- Or a Grade 9 with Maths and Science
