Purpose

The purpose of this programme is to give you the opportunity to be a part of the future by following the mandate set by the Qualifications Council for Trades and Occupations

The Occupational Qualification – Refrigeration is an apprenticeship programme that runs over three years and you will during your training learn to:

  • Install air conditioning refrigeration and ventilation systems
  • Commission air conditioning refrigeration and ventilation systems
  • Maintain, service, troubleshoot and repair air conditioning refrigeration and ventilation systems

Recommended Entry Criteria

  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • NQF 1 English, Second Language, Maths & Science, and 2 other subjects

Year 1:

  • In year 1 you will focus on Hand skills and tools, the introduction to the Refrigeration Industry understanding thermodynamics the basic vapour compression cycle and joining and installation of refrigerant piping.

Year 2

  • In year 2 you will focus on all components and equipment used in the Refrigeration Industry and the electrical circuitry as used in the Refrigeration Industry

Year 3:

  • In year 3 you will focus on keys and locking devices, bearings, commissioning the cold and freezer rooms, and mechanical and electrical fault finding of the plants
